Biography
Ben Wittick (1845-1903) traveled through the American Southwest with his camera, capturing portraits of Indigenous leaders and sweeping landscapes that introduced many Americans to the frontier they were rapidly transforming.
His studio became a crossroads for explorers and artists alike, and his photographs continue to be cherished by historians and readers, while his remains rest in Riverside Cemetery.
