Benno Elkan
1877–1960 (age 83)
Biography
Benno Elkan combined literary sensitivity with an artist’s eye, producing writings and works that celebrated Jewish life and faith across generations. He believed in the power of narrative to counter prejudice, and he used his pen as freely as his sculptor’s tools to remind readers of shared humanity.
The Liberal Jewish Cemetery in Willesden now shelters his resting place, where visitors still feel the warmth of a man who wrote, sculpted, and taught with generosity.
