Benoni Irwin

Biography

Benoni Irwin, born in 1840, studied painting in the United States and abroad, becoming a celebrated portrait artist noted for capturing the character and warmth of his sitters in both public and private commissions. His paintings adorned many homes and institutions, and he maintained a studio where he welcomed fellow artists and patrons alike.

He died in 1896 and was laid to rest at Nathan Hale Cemetery, leaving an artistic legacy cherished for its refined elegance and tender humanity.
