Biography

Born in 1844, Bertha Welby became known among friends and neighbors as a steadfast presence through decades of change in New York. Her warm hospitality and thoughtful concern for relatives helped anchor the family during trying times, and she remained a guiding force in the lives of several generations.

When she passed in 1917, her community remembered her for the calm strength she offered countless people; she was laid to rest at The Evergreens Cemetery, where her memory continues to be honored.
