William H. Bonney, widely known as Billy the Kid, has become a figure of much legend, remembered for his role in the Lincoln County War and his restless youth on the frontier.
Though history remembers him for violent chapters, his grave at Old Fort Sumner Cemetery invites reflection on the harsh realities that marked many lives on the Plains.
