Biography

Burton Harrison (1838–1904) served as private secretary to Jefferson Davis before the Civil War and afterward returned to the practice of law, carrying with him both a solemn sense of duty and a thoughtful pen as he chronicled the lives he witnessed.

He remained grounded in his community, mentoring young lawyers and sharing his recollections of a turbulent era, and he rests at Ivy Hill Cemetery where many remember his dignified presence.
