Biography
Byron Cummings, often called the dean of Southwestern archaeology, built the University of Arizona’s archaeological program, leading expeditions to Mesa Verde, Casa Grande, and other ruins while training a generation of field archaeologists.
He championed scientific recording, public education, and the protection of ancient sites, and Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery stands as a testament to a scholar whose research forever expanded knowledge of the region’s Indigenous past.
