Byron Haskin spent decades behind the camera, building from RKO cinematography to helming landmark adventures such as 'Treasure Island' and his 1953 adaptation of 'The War of the Worlds'; he brought vivid realism to fantastical stories with pioneering special effects that still inspire filmmakers.

He was known for steady leadership of crews and for fostering collaborative spirit, and his love of the West Coast found him at home near Santa Barbara, where he now rests in Santa Barbara Cemetery, leaving a legacy of bold storytelling.
