Biography
Cale Young Rice gained recognition as a poet and dramatist whose lyrical work often drew upon Southern landscapes and mythic themes, and his collections and plays found appreciative audiences in the United States and abroad. His verses revealed a gift for rhythm and imagistic detail that made him a distinctive voice among early twentieth-century American writers.
Rice collaborated with actors and composers, and many of his dramatic pieces were staged on both coasts, allowing him to promote Southern literary talent while maintaining a thoughtful presence in Louisville's cultural circles until his passing in 1943.
