Biography

Campbell Slemp was born in 1839 in Lee County, Virginia, served as a Confederate officer, and later entered public life as a businessman and adviser to his neighbors.

In the early 1900s he represented Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives, worked to improve transportation and education, and he rests at Slemp Memorial Cemetery where his family continues to honor his bridging of nineteenth-century roots and twentieth-century service.
