Biography

Carl Christoffer Gjörwell Sr. (1731–1811) was a distinguished Swedish librarian and scholar who played a significant role in the development of Swedish literary and bibliographic culture. As a librarian, he contributed to the organization and preservation of knowledge during a period when libraries were becoming increasingly important institutions for learning and intellectual advancement.

Gjörwell's long career spanned most of the 18th century, allowing him to influence the development of Swedish scholarship and library science. His contributions to Swedish intellectual life are commemorated in Solna Cemetery, where he was interred among other notable figures of the Swedish Enlightenment and early Romantic periods.
