Biography

Carlo Alberto I of Sardinia (1798–1849) was a significant figure in Italian history, serving as King of Sardinia during the crucial period of the Risorgimento. His reign witnessed important constitutional reforms and his military campaigns against Austrian rule in northern Italy, making him a central figure in the movement toward Italian unification.

Though his later life was marked by abdication and exile following military defeats, Carlo Alberto's historical importance remains substantial. His burial at the Basilica of Superga in Turin, the royal necropolis of the House of Savoy, reflects his status as one of Sardinia's most consequential monarchs and his enduring place in Italian national memory.
