Biography

Catherine Van Rensselaer (1734-1803) was a member of the Van Rensselaer family, one of the most prominent and influential families in colonial and early federal New York. Born into wealth and social prominence in the Hudson Valley, she lived through the American Revolution and witnessed the establishment of the new nation.

Van Rensselaer's life reflected the experiences and social position of the Dutch-American aristocracy during a transformative period in American history. She was laid to rest in Albany Rural Cemetery, a final resting place befitting her family's distinguished status in the region.
