Biography

Cathy Berberian (1925–1983) was an innovative American composer and vocalist whose experimental approach to music challenged conventional boundaries and expanded the possibilities of vocal expression. Her groundbreaking work in contemporary classical music earned her international recognition and influenced generations of musicians.

Berberian's artistic legacy continues to inspire composers and performers worldwide. She is interred in the major cemetery of Milan, a fitting resting place for an artist who spent much of her career in Europe and left an indelible mark on twentieth-century music.
