Biography

Champion S. Chase (1820-1898) spent much of his adult life guiding Nebraska's legal and governmental institutions through their earliest days. He applied his training as a lawyer to the delicate tasks of structuring justice and supporting the rule of law for a young populace.

Those who knew Chase appreciated his steady counsel and his desire to see fair treatment for all, even as the territory gave way to statehood. He is remembered among those who paved the way for a more ordered civic life and rests at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
