Biography

Charitas Emilie Bernstorff (1732–1820) was a prominent salonnière who played an influential role in the intellectual and cultural life of Weimar. Her salon became a gathering place for artists, writers, and thinkers of the era, facilitating important cultural exchanges and artistic development.

Bernstorff's contributions to Weimar's cultural flourishing during its most significant period were substantial, as she fostered connections among leading intellectual figures. Her long life spanned much of the 18th century and into the 19th, allowing her to witness and influence major cultural transformations. She was honored with burial in the Historical Cemetery of Weimar, a recognition of her vital role in the city's cultural heritage.
