Charles A. Schieren

Biography

Charles A. Schieren (1842–1915) emigrated from Germany as a child and rose to prominence as the founder of a large baking concern, later serving Brooklyn as mayor and advocating for practical civic improvements.

Green-Wood Cemetery now preserves his memory, commemorating the industrial success and public service that marked his American journey.
