Biography

Charles Augustus Cheever (1793–1852) shepherded congregations in Portsmouth, drawing parishioners with earnest sermons and a thoughtful pen that sought to bridge spiritual insight with daily practice.

He also devoted energy to writing that encouraged devotion and civic kindness, and he now rests in Portsmouth, where his pastoral leadership is still recalled with affection.
