Biography
Charles Benedict Davenport devoted himself to the study of heredity, helping to bring biology into a new era by building laboratories, mentoring young researchers, and fostering inquiry at Cold Spring Harbor. His insistence on rigorous observation shaped the early field of genetics.
Though the science of his time has evolved, the communities of scholars he helped nurture still remember how he encouraged collaboration and the sharing of knowledge, and he remains interred at the Memorial Cemetery of St. John's Church.
