Charles Champlain Townsend

Biography

Charles Champlain Townsend, born in 1841, lived through the turbulence of the Civil War era and afterward became a steady force in his Grove community, helping to rebuild local life with courage and care. He took pride in a trade learned from his forebears, passing along craftsmanship and wise counsel to apprentices and relatives alike.

He cherished the simple pleasures of his home, and when he died in 1910 those who had watched him nurture Grove Cemetery with gentle devotion remembered him as a man of unwavering responsibility.
