Charles Christopher Trowbridge (1800-1883) was among the earliest civic leaders of Detroit, guiding its diplomacy with Indigenous nations and helping to lay the foundations of a thriving market town.

Later generations benefited from his commitment to public institutions and to inclusive progress, and Elmwood Cemetery now holds his memory as a tribute to a life spent in quiet service.
