Biography

Colonel Charles Coster (1837–1888) led men from New York in the Union Army and played a critical role in holding Cemetery Ridge during the Battle of Gettysburg.

After the war he returned to civilian life with quiet confidence, supporting veterans' charities and remembering the sacrifices of the soldiers he once commanded.
