Biography

Charles E. Peterson was a pioneering figure in American historic preservation, guiding the development of standards that helped communities honor their architectural heritage. His leadership with the National Park Service and subsequent advocacy preserved countless landmarks for future generations.

Peterson's insistence on thoughtful stewardship inspired a generation of preservationists, and he now rests at Hayden Cemetery, a quiet witness to the buildings he fought to protect.
