Biography
Charles Edward Munroe, who was born in 1849, became a leading chemist and educator, serving for many years at the U.S. Naval Academy and guiding work at the U.S. Naval Powder Factory.
His study of explosives and the development of what became known as the Munroe effect helped to strengthen national defense, while his devotion to teaching inspired generations of naval officers.
