Charles Feltman

Biography

Charles Feltman (1841–1910) emigrated from Germany and opened what became the first hot dog stand on Coney Island, turning a simple sausage-in-a-roll into a beloved American concession and laying the foundation for a thriving entrepreneurial endeavor.

His ingenuity helped meet the appetites of countless visitors to the waterfront, and Green-Wood Cemetery holds him in memory as a pioneering entrepreneur whose spirit of welcome endures.
