Biography

Charles Gleyre was a distinguished Swiss painter and influential art teacher who profoundly shaped the artistic landscape of the nineteenth century. Born in 1806, he developed a reputation for his refined academic style and his dedication to instructing the next generation of artists.

Throughout his career, Gleyre maintained a studio in Paris where he mentored numerous students who would themselves become notable artists.
