Charles Grignion the Elder

Charles Grignion the Elder, born in 1717, earned a reputation as an engraver whose images preserved the likenesses of antiquity and who taught apprentices the careful hand required by his art.

Though London kept him busy, he remained loyal to St John the Baptist, Kentish Town, ensuring that the church and its congregation received the same care he extended to his craft.
