Rainmaker
Biography
Charles Hatfield, the rainmaker born in 1875, became known for his unusual experiments in inducing precipitation, studies that took him across the Southwest as farmers and city officials hoped he could coax relief from prolonged droughts.
Even after the dramatic storms that followed his celebrated 1915 contract in San Diego, he never ceased viewing himself as a humble student of weather, and he is now interred among the gentle palms of Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
