Biography

Charles J. Hull, born in 1820, was a dedicated civic presence in Chicago’s growth, lending his energies to business affairs and charitable efforts that aimed to strengthen the fabric of the city. He was known to neighbors and colleagues for a calm resolve and a willingness to support public institutions as they multiplied in the postwar era.

His death in 1889 closed a lifetime of steady service, and he was laid to rest at Rosehill Cemetery, where many of his contemporaries remain.
