Biography

Charles Montagu Doughty made his name as the author of 'Travels in Arabia Deserta,' an epic account of his desert journey that combined keen observation with poetic language and brought the people and landscape of Arabia to Victorian readers.

After years of exploration he returned to England, and when he died in 1926 he was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium, leaving a legacy as a daring traveller and sensitive chronicler of the Near East.
