Charles Robert Hemphill was born in 1852 and lived through the Reconstruction years, carrying forward a rooted sense of responsibility for his neighbors.

When he passed in 1932, his family placed him at Cave Hill Cemetery, which continues to hold the memory of his steady, compassionate leadership.
