Charles S. Benton

Biography

Charles S. Benton, born in 1810, dedicated much of his life to public service, carrying the concerns of his constituents to Washington as a U.S. Congressman and later continuing his civic work in private life, guided by a belief in fair representation and civic virtue.

His later years were marked by steady stewardship of community affairs and the mentoring of younger citizens, leaving a legacy of measured leadership that is commemorated at Oak Grove Cemetery.
