Charles Yardley Turner studied art in Philadelphia and abroad, quickly becoming known for murals, portraits, and decorative work that illuminated public buildings across the nation. A devoted teacher, he shared his skills with generations of students, urging them to see the beauty in civic spaces.
Through his brushstrokes he brought history and idealism to life, inspiring visitors even in retirement; his work and spirit are now commemorated at Friends Burial Ground.
