Biography
Charlotte Brontë emerged from the Yorkshire parsonage at Haworth to become one of the towering novelists of the Victorian era, with works such as Jane Eyre and Shirley giving voice to characters of moral depth and emotional complexity. Her command of language and exploration of inner life helped reshape the novel form and inspired countless readers across generations.
Always attentive to the struggles of women and the poor, she retained a deep affection for Haworth, where she worshipped at St Michael and All Angels’ Church and remained close to her siblings until her untimely death. Her resting place there continues to draw admirers who honor a writer of fierce intelligence and tender spirit.
