Biography
Charlotte Caroline Sowerby was a talented botanical illustrator whose artistic contributions enriched the scientific and aesthetic understanding of the natural world during the nineteenth century. Her detailed and skillful illustrations of botanical specimens were valued by naturalists and scholars of her time.
Born in 1820, Sowerby devoted herself to the precise and beautiful representation of plant life through her illustrations. She passed away in 1865 and was interred in Highgate Cemetery, where she rests among other notable figures of Victorian London, her legacy preserved in the botanical works she helped to illuminate.
