Christopher Oscanyan

Biography

Christopher Oscanyan, born in Constantinople in 1818, built a career as a writer, editor, and translator who introduced American readers to Ottoman life, notably through works such as The Sultan and His People.

His diplomatic service, including a posting as United States consul general in the empire, reflected a life spent bridging cultures with wisdom and grace.
