Biography
Coretta Scott King, born in 1927, stood beside Martin Luther King Jr. as a partner in the civil rights struggle, using her musical gifts to uplift marches, rallies, and speeches and helping to organize voter drives, boycotts, and direct-action campaigns.
After her husband's assassination she founded the King Center, advocated for human rights and nonviolent justice, and continued campaigning for peace and economic equality until her 2006 passing and interment at the Center she inspired.
