Biography
Cortlandt Van Rensselaer was a member of one of New York's most prominent families, the Van Rensselaers, whose influence shaped the development of the Hudson Valley and Albany region. Born in 1808, he inherited a legacy of land ownership and civic responsibility that characterized his family's role in New York history.
Van Rensselaer's life reflected the aristocratic traditions and responsibilities of the Hudson Valley elite during the nineteenth century. He was interred at Albany Rural Cemetery, a final resting place befitting his family's standing in the community.
