Biography

Cyrus Bussey was a Civil War cavalry leader whose steady hand and resolute demeanor steadied men through the hardships of conflict. He carried into peacetime a respect for agriculture and rural communities, seeing in the cultivation of the land and the care of veterans a natural continuation of service to his nation.

He remained a familiar figure among those who valued both civic responsibility and the comforts of home, and when he was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery his name became part of the chorus of leaders who had shaped the republic’s better impulses.
