Biography
D. Wyatt Aiken (1828–1887) carried forward his family’s agricultural roots while also serving with distinction in Congress, earning respect for his knowledge of farming and his willingness to speak for rural communities. A veteran of the Confederate army, he later turned to legislative work, defending the interests of South Carolina planters and laborers alike.
He rests in Magnolia Cemetery, where his colleagues remember him as a tenacious advocate for agriculture and for the young men he once led in uniform.
