Dan Voorhees Stephens
1868–1939 (age 71)
U.S. Representative
Biography
Dan Voorhees Stephens combined an educator's heart with a farmer's grit, teaching country children before entering banking and eventually representing Nebraska in the U.S. Congress. During his terms he promoted agricultural education, rural post offices, and highway improvements so distant homesteads stayed connected to markets and news.
When he returned to his home region, Dan remained active in civic affairs, attending Ridge Cemetery memorial services and encouraging young leaders to heed the land and the lessons of the plains.
