Biography
Daniel Fuller Appleton, born in 1826, carried forward the family publishing house that became a pillar of American letters. Under his stewardship Appleton & Company issued works of literature, science, and scholarship that enriched readers across the country.
Beyond business, he supported the growth of cultural institutions and promoted the dissemination of knowledge, believing that print could elevate the common life. He is interred at Old South Cemetery, remembered as a steward of the written word.
