Biography

Daniel Updike was born in 1761 and lived through the Revolutionary War and the establishment of the American republic, experiencing over eight decades of the nation's history. He passed away in 1842 at an advanced age, having witnessed the transformation of the young nation into a growing power.

Updike's long life was rooted in his community, and he was ultimately laid to rest at East Greenwich Cemetery. His eighty-one years reflect the resilience and continuity of those who helped build and sustain the early American republic, and his memory is preserved in the cemetery where he was interred.
