Biography
Born in 1873 in Ireland and raised in New Zealand, Dave Gallaher emerged as one of rugby union’s most respected leaders. As captain of the famed 1905–06 Originals, he guided his team with unwavering discipline and a deep respect for the spirit of the game.
When war called he answered with the same steadiness, serving with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force and later the Royal Army Service Corps; he succumbed to illness in 1917 and rests at Nine Elms British Cemetery, where his pioneering legacy in rugby endures.
