Biography

David Sohappy carried the voices of the Yakama Nation into courtrooms and councils, pressing for the proper honoring of treaty fishing rights and the continuation of cultural traditions along the Columbia River.

His leadership as a Native American activist was marked by quiet courage, and his memory continues to inspire community members whose lives he touched; he rests in Toppenish Creek Cemetery.
