Biography

David Tod, born in 1805, moved from mercantile ventures into public service, eventually representing Ohio in Congress and guiding the state through the calamitous first years of the Civil War.

As governor he balanced the needs of soldiers and civilians, earning widespread admiration for his integrity, and he was later laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery with gratitude from the people he served.
