Biography

Dick Sheppard was a charismatic rector of St Martin-in-the-Fields whose care for the poor and homeless brought the church to the heart of London’s social concerns.

As a pacifist and founding figure of the Peace Pledge Union, he urged faith communities to embrace reconciliation, a witness now honoured with a memorial in Canterbury Cathedral.
