Biography

Dominique You (1775–1830) rose from the waters of the Gulf to become a famed privateer and military officer, defending the young United States during the War of 1812 and beyond. His daring spirit and leadership reflected the complex loyalties of a region shaped by French, Spanish, and American waves of influence.

Laid to rest at Saint Louis Cemetery No. 2, his memory lives on in the tales of maritime courage and service that continue to inspire appreciation for those who safeguarded liberty.
