Douglas Corrigan
1907–1995 (age 88)
Biography
Douglas Corrigan captured the public imagination as an aviator who famously claimed to have intended to fly from New York to California, only to land in Ireland after zigzagging across the Atlantic. Despite the playful nickname "Wrong Way" Corrigan, his piloting skill was unquestionable.
He remained devoted to aviation throughout his life, encouraging young pilots to keep their eyes on both the instruments and the horizon, and he treasured the friendships made in hangars and in the camaraderie of flight.
