Biography

Duane Leroy Bliss rose from modest beginnings to build a major enterprise in logging and railroads, his vision aiding transportation links that opened Nevada and the Lake Tahoe region to commerce and travel. He combined shrewd business acumen with a conviction that success brought responsibility, supporting hospitals, schools, and public works that reflected his belief in civic stewardship.

In later years he divided his time between northern Nevada and the Bay Area, and upon his passing in 1907 he was laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery, leaving behind an industrial legacy tempered by generosity.
